Welcome to our blog post Number 1.
Enjoy!
CuddleBuds was born out of a gift made for the pending arrival of our first Grandchild due in 2024. Being an avid crocheter since 2018, I decided that it would be fitting to make a rabbit for our new grandbaby. You see, our daughter was given a rabbit in her first year and that rabbit is still with her now (28 years later), it went with her everywhere, so of course her first child should have a rabbit too. Baby shower day came and I presented her with a large crochet basket full of mother and baby goodies covered over with a crochet pram blanket and sitting proudly on top was the rabbit. She was thrilled with the rabbit and her friends were amazed and asked "did you really make that?" "could you make me one?" "could you make me a puppy?' and so on. When I got home, I said to my husband "I think I've found my business idea".
So, I made a small selection of three different characters - rabbit, puppy and bears, which I decided would all be different, no one the same, gave them a name and a backstory. Each one was CA UK tested and I took them to a local craft fair. by the end of the day I had sold all but one character - I was thrilled to bits. CuddleBuds was born! When I got home I set about making more rabbits, puppies and bears and overtime added more characters to the collection. That same year, I asked my nephew what he wanted for his birthday and he responded by saying he wanted his Cocker Spaniel dog, Mabel, as a CuddleBuds toy. The result was so good that in 2024 CuddleBuds launched the Pet Commission option, and since then I have recreated over 30 dogs as CuddleBuds characters for their owners, 3 cats and 2 horses. Now in 2026, we have over 34 different characters to choose from.
In the meantime, I have also graduated with an Open University BA (Hons) Upper Second Class Degree in English Literature and Creative writing in 2024 and in 2025 I started a Masters Degree in Creative Writing (online) with the Arts University Bournemouth. I am a disabled poet and writer based in Lincolnshire with one story published in an Anthology called Tendrils available from Amazon and a poem published in a Journal called Litbop: Art and Literature in the Groove, Vol 1:5.
My daughter is now expecting her second child, due in August 2026, so I need to start thinking about what character to make for number 2 grandchild. Any suggestions gratefully welcome, please message with ideas. Also feel free to message with ideas for animals to be added to the CuddleBuds range.
Many thanks for reading and watch this space for our next blog.
